WHDI Tech Matters

Unlike many other transmitters choose to compete for bandwidth in 2.4 Ghz frequency, that is fully crowded with numerous kinds of wireless devices: laptops, tablets, keyboards, mouse and even cell phones. The IOGEAR Wireless HDMI 3D Digital Kit adapts WHDI technology, which uses 40 MHz on the unlicensed 5 GHz band to carry the equivalent of 3Gbps as far as 100 feet.

The video will be crystal-clear without unnecessary interference. This new spec, based on work from Amimon, inventor of the technology, boosts resolution for 720p in the previous version to 1080p. The other important feature will be the near zero latency, literally less than 1 msec, making WHDI ideal for game consoles that require extremely brief response times. WHDI device may eliminate the need for video cables; they can also act as a wireless switcher, connecting multiple video sources to multiple HDTVs and displays.

What’s in the Box

Transmitter, receiver, AC/DC adapters for transmitter, IR blaster and extender, HDMI bridge cable, remote control, mounting accessories, instruction booklet and quick start guide.

After getting this IOGEAR wireless HDMI 3D Digital Kit I managed to stream the video signal to an Optoma HD25 projector, which is ceiling mounted about 20 feet from the projection screen. Under that is the media center contains my source devices. My favorite feature of the IOGear is that the receiver unit can be powered through a USB port which my Optoma happens to has. I have only one power outlet in the ceiling! The USB interface is universal with most modern TV So it also works with them for get rid of those extra power wires.

All HD video clips showed by this IOGEAR wireless HDMI kit contain full detail and no extraneous noise. I also played some streaming video (standard-definition) and couldn’t find any difference compared with the normal cable transmission. The level of sharpness and color quality looked the same. I am getting up to 1080p resolution with the Blu-ray discs, and the 3D film I tried on Blu-ray also showed up correctly. The image produced was clear of any artifacts.

The IOGear wireless HDMI product does not require line of site between the transmitter and receiver. So it will work through walls and between floors. I switched the source into my laptop and moved it with the transmitter into an adjoining room and repeated the test. The results were still crystal clear picture and sound.

Using the remote extender feature, you can point your remote control to receiver unit of the IOGEAR Wireless HDMI 3D Digital Kit and it will send the commands back wirelessly to the transmitter. This entitles me the ability to control your source device: Switch source devices, playback, adjust the sound track of a Blu-ray Disc player, or change channel for a cable/satellite box.

A wireless HDMI system can save you a significant amount of money, compared to the costs of running a HDMI through a wall. In some situations, it may be not supposed to be possible to run a cable without major work or having the cable out in the open.

IOGEAR Wireless HDMI transmitter 3D Digital Kit may also be a better option in situations where long cable runs are involved, regardless of the ease of running the cable. The cost of a long high-quality HDMI cable can easily exceed the cost of IOGEAR GW3DHDKIT. The IOGEAR GW3DHDKIT wireless HDMI extender sends HDMI from cable/satellite boxes, Blu-ray, DVRs, AVRs, laptop and other HD sources to your HDTV or projector.

The Wireless Receiver connects with the HD displays, its tiny body suits anywhere and can drain power through a USB slot so cooperate well with for most modern electrics. IOGEAR GW3DHDKIT can deliver perfect picture and sound at the same time eliminate unsightly cables. Recommend to anyone who doesn’t want dangling cables.

I think you mean how to connect this IOGEAR GW3DHDKIT Wireless3D Digital Kit with your own HDTV and your PC. That will be a very simple procedure. First you connect the transmitter(the main box you mentioned) to the HDMI slot on your main board of your PC desktop, which is usually near traditional VGA or DVI slot. Second you insert the tiny receiver into one of HDMI slots on your HDTV and don’t forget to power it through the mini-USB slot. Then you can enjoy the wireless HD video as you wish.

Thanks for writing up on this. The guys at Optoma didn’t dare say that the USB on it’s projectors could be used to power the IO gear as its stated to only be used for firmware upgrades only.
