Sony BM10 Bluetooth Music Receiver Review-the Longest Transmit Range Than Ever

Long Range Bluetooth Music Receiver is No Longer Impossible

Most Bluetooth receivers on the market are capable of wireless transmission within 33 feet(10m), which is enough for the general situation. But many complains of Bluetooth music receiver are about broadcasting range, so we really need the range could be extended a little more.

Now SONY launches its new generation Bluetooth music receiver BM10, who has the ability of receiving data and streaming music up to 100 meters. This is almost 10 times the range of other receivers. But SONY emphasizes the source device must support Bluetooth® Class 1 for this outstanding feature. For non Bluetooth® Class 1 devices, streaming distance is up to 50 meters. Even this limited 50 meters is beyond all my expectation. I do some simple calculation to find out the covered area is about 7853 square meters, it covers all my house, my garden, my neighbor’s house and his garden, and beyond. Far than enough, just discover your wireless living and enjoy moving about freely without concern of distance. This Bluetooth music receiver is just like a new soldier on the battlefield armed with all necessary techs. As you might noticed that aptX® audio enhancement technology is combined for a premium wireless music listening experience. Sounds are much clearer than transmitting via regular bluetooth(SBC or AAC). With NFC you can pair and connect your smartphone to BM10 with one single touch, even don’t need to stop playing. For non-NFC enabled devices, Bluetooth pairing applies normally. The music receiver is able to pair with up to 8 devices, enough for a big family to enjoy the convenience of modern tech.

The manual has to be described as useless. There’s a button on the front panel which results in a change to the flashing light. Pressing it resulted in my friend’s phone being disconnected. This thing has a receive range of 100 meters. I’d like to know I can secure the connection.

If the manual is useless, the warranty information is hilarious. Apparently I’m not covered should there be up to two defective pixels on its display. Er…, there’s a single LED. I hope that doesn’t go defective. Also I’m to note that batteries don’t last forever. It doesn’t have one.

      Hi Richard:
Thank you for your comment, your contribution to this website will always be appreciated.
The front button is for pairing, Unless you are going to adjust the connection setting. It will be better to keep it alone. The LED is small, but it is enough for a state indicator.

I would like to use several of these in a multi-source multi-zone system. Will these units interfere with each other? Is this possible?

    Thank you

Will this automatically reconnect like the grace digital GDI-BTAR502? I have heard that connects exceptionally well.

Can this device pair to several devices at the time? I’ve read that it can connect to up to 8 devices but does it mean that it is able to remember those 8 devices one at a time or can it be connected to several at the same time? Thanks for your answer

    • portablehifi March 11, 2015 at 11:15 pm - Reply

SONY BM10 can only connect with a Bluetooth source device at one time. If you are looking for a multiple connection Bluetooth music receiver this Grace Digital GDI-BTPB300 3-Play Jukebox Bluetooth Adapter can support up to 3 connections at the same time.

I have a 20 year old Sony reciever (but quite excellent) and both an iPad mini and an iPhone 5s. Will this product allow me to play Spotify or my playlist? Will I need any other hardware, cables, etc. to make it work? Thank you.

    • portablehifi February 10, 2016 at 5:31 am - Reply

It will definitely do what you ask for as if your receiver has RCA put in slot.

Thanks for that clarification. That’s what I thought, but wanted to be certain. I tried to “add to cart,” but it says that the item is currently unavailable. I looked elsewhere and didn’t find it. I looked on Sony’s website, and can’t find it there either. What is the story? Is this a real product? How do I buy one? Thank you.
